Native flowers of Mongolia




















The most commonly found flower plant in Mongolia is Caryopteris. These are the small shrubs which grow up to 1 to 4 meters tall. The leaves of the plant are aromatic. These are placed opposite to each other. The flowers possess white or blue color. When the flowers are in blue color they are often known with the name, Blue Mist. These plants are used to make perfumes due to their fragrance. The smell is quite similar to the mint.

Another most famous flower plant in Mongolia is Edelweiss. These are the famous mountain flowers, which are exclusively seen on mountain ranges. The plant can grow from 3 to 20 centimeters. The leaves are wooly with the covering of white hairs. The white petals are arranged in star like shape. The flowers have medicinal value. These flowers bloom in four to five numbers at a time.

Another most commonly found native Mongolian specie of flowers is gentians. These plants grow in temperate regions of Mongolia. These flower plants are found in Mongolia as well as other regions of Asia. There are almost 400 species of gentians available all over the world. Out of these some evergreen species are found in Mongolia. The color of the flowers is generally azure or deep blue. However some species possess red, yellow, creamy or even white colors. In Mongolia, blue colored gentians are found prominently. These flowers possess five petals and five sepals.

Beautiful flowers of geranium are found in the mountains of Mongolia. The flowers can grow in any type of soil, except the waterlogged soil. The flowers are extremely tender and possess colors such as purple, pink, blue and pinkish white. Most of the types of these flowers comprise of five petals except some pink colored variants.

Some parts of the mountains and slopes of the mountains in Mongolia are covered with Delphinium. These plants possess long flowering stem. Small purple colored flowers bloom on these flowering stems. In some of the species, this stem can be 10 cm long; while in others it may be longer up to 2 meters long. Apart from purple colored flowers, white, yellow, red and blue colored flowers are also found. Each of the flowers possesses five petals. Bumble bees and butterflies carry out pollination of the flowers. The flowers are extremely poisonous and can cause death when consumed in larger quantity. However the extract of the flowers and rest of the plant is used in making herbal medicines.

The mountains in Mongolia are covered with small shrubs of Rhododendron. These are plants with larger leaves and small flowers. These plants are found in Mongolia as well as other mountainous areas of Northern hemisphere. These plants are used in landscaping as ornamental plants. However the flowers are poisonous and cause extreme effects in most of the animals after consumption. Especially, the horses die within few hours after eating the plant.

It comprises of one more specie of attractive flowers. These are ancolies. The flowers are found in two colors, mainly magenta and purple. The flowers comprise of five petals with white and color combination. The petals are surrounded by five sepals in the purple or magenta color. The central pollen is yellow colored. Along with these most of the land has sweet pea grown on it. The delicate flowers can be pink or purple in color.
